Fred Clark Scribner was born on February 14, 1908 in Bath, Maine. He received an A.B. from Dartmouth College in 1930, and LL.B. from Harvard University in 1933. Following his graduation from law school, he was an associate at the law firm Cook, Hutchinson, Pierce, and Connell in Portland, 1933 to 1935, and a partner at that firm from 1935 to 1955.
